Paris is host to over 100 markets every week. Neighbourhood open-air food markets are set up in a street or square a couple of days a week and offer a range of groceries to serve local residents. Larger covered markets offering food and other items are open daily (except Mondays, generally). Second-hand (‘flea’) markets operate weekly, and there are also markets for books, flowers and more. Because there are so many we have separated this section into:
Hot tip: Do not touch the produce or pieces at markets – just point, be nice, and let the stallholder show it to you. Also – take cash! Many stallholders don’t have any other means of payment, and even if they do, they will often look more favourably on cash purchases.
Flea Markets
Including thrift stores and garage sale guides, as well as the large markets – for the treasure hunters.

The Red Cross solidarity shops stock all sorts of donated items, and have three locations in the city in the 9th, the 10th and the 18th.

Emmaüs runs eight solidarity second-hand stores in the 9th, 12th and 18th, three larger stores on the city’s outskirts, and the Campüs Boutique in the 5th.

No, the Chateau Fair is not in Paris! But it is nearby and we list it here for the avid flea-marketers who may want to add a day trip to their list. Every year over a week in early March, on the Île des Impressionnistes in Chatou.

Satellite of the La Petite Rockette association, a a thrift store offering clothing, jewellery, vintage accessories and vinyl records at fair prices. In the 12th.

Second-hand clothing store where fashion is combined with circularity and solidarity, and all proceeds are put towards community work. In the 12th.

A community re-using centre where you can donate, rummage and purchase an array of items, and attend a creative workshop. In the 14th.

An annual event offering the second-hand tableware, silverware, cutlery, glassware, and even furniture, of some of the capital’s great restaurants. Over a weekend in late February.

Online national marketplace where all manner of goods and services are bought and sold across the country.

Thrift store selling donated goods to further training, integration and community work. In the 15th and 20th.

A stand-alone, specialised market representing an array of operators, with the website proving a useful tool for understanding what’s available here. In the Saint-Ouen flea market.

The Oxfam charity runs 6 stores within Paris, including bookstores in the 11th and 14th, and a thrift store in the 11th.

Not exactly a market, but definitively a treasure trove of recycled plants and garden objects. In the 12th.

The Points de Chine website lists flea markets and garage sales across France – filter for Paris for those up-and-coming in the city.

Established flea market with second-hand goods of all kinds, plus new household items. Open Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, in the 20th.

Also known as the Clingancourt, this huge flea market contains specialist markets within. Open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, on the edge of the 18th.

Specialising in antique and vintage items, with over 300 stalls, the Vanves is open every Saturday and Sunday along the Avenues Marc Sangnier and Georges Lafenestre, in the 14th.

The L’Alternative recycling centre gives a second life to objects, textiles, furniture, books and other goods resulting from donations. In the 2nd.

The ‘Société Parisienne d’Animation et de Manifestation’ organises professional flea markets and garage sales, provide a calendar of upcoming ones.

‘Vide-Greniers (‘Garage Sale’) is a not-for-profit website listing garage sales and flea markets across the city – filter for Paris to find those close to you.
Book, Collector, Craft and Flower Markets

Open every day, the Paris booksellers set up along the Left Bank from Quai de la Tournelle to Quai Voltaire in the 5th, and along the Right Bank from Pont Marie to Quai du Louvre in the 4th.

Paris’ Queen Elizabeth II flower market operates from Monday-Saturday, and on Sundays becomes the Bird Market (Marché aux Oiseaux). In the Place Louis Lépine on the Île Saint-Louis in the 4th.

The Madeleine flower market is open from Monday through to Saturday in the Place de la Madeleine in the 8th.

The Ternes flower market is open from Tuesday through to Sunday in the Place du Ternes in the 17th.

The Stamp Market is a renowned collectors market for stamps, coins, postcards and pins. Open Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in the Carré Marigny in the 8th.

The creation market is an ‘open-air gallery’ where artists and craftspeople offer their paintings, sculpture, ceramics, engravings and more, every Sunday in Montparnasse in the 14th.

The old and second-hand book market takes up residence every Saturday and Sunday under the covered market that runs alongside the Parc Georges Brassens in the 15th.
Covered Markets and Market Streets

Covered market with fresh produce stalls, a gourmet corner, a sports corner, a games corner and a Greek restaurant. Stores open at different times, primarily Tuesday-Saturday, on the Avenue Secrétan in the 19th.

The Cavern is an underground urban farm built in a disused carpark, growing mushrooms, endives and microgreens that you can purchase on weekdays before and after lunch (of course!). In the 18th.

A combined covered and open-air food market, and a flea market as well, featuring all sorts of foods and things. The Aligre is open from Tuesday to Sunday (note varying times), in the Place and Rue d’Aligre in the 12th.

The covered Batignolles market sells a wide range of food and things. Open Tuesday-Sunday on the Rue Lemercier in the 17th. (Also note the market street of Rue des Moines on the corner.)

Medium-sized covered market offering fresh produce, deli items, seafood, meat, cheese and specialty items. Open Tuesday-Sunday in the Place de Passy in the 16th.

Paris’ largest covered market offers all manner of fresh and specialty foodstuffs, and more. Open Tuesday-Sunday (and until 8pm most days) on the Boulevard de Magenta in the 10th.

The oldest covered food market in Paris, the Red Children Market offers fresh produce, specialty goods, an internal café and wine bar. Open until evenings from Tuesday to Sunday, on the Rue de Bretagne in the 3rd.

Not a market nor a market street, but important to note! Paris Fermier hosts 12 farmer’s fairs and markets across the city every year – keep an eye on their socials and website for when and where they’re scheduled.

A market street that includes a semi-permanent street market that runs every day, the Mouffetard is full of food stores and more. In the 5th.

Just outside Paris is the world’s largest fresh food market, which services many of the city’s cafes and markets. Public access via approved tour operators only, check the website for details.
